The admissions policy of the State Board of Technical and Adult Education and Sandersville Technical College assures the citizens of Georgia equal access to the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for them to secure personally satisfying and socially productive employment. By design and implementation, the policy and procedures governing admission to Sandersville Technical College are nondiscriminatory to any eligible applicant regardless of age, race, color, national origin, religion, sex, martial status, veteran status, academic or economic disadvantage, or disability. Sandersville Technical College is committed to an "open door" admissions policy. The "open door" policy means that any qualified applicant able to benefit from our curriculum will be served by the college on a first-applied, first-qualified basis.
Admission to Sandersville Technical College is not a guarantee of admission to a specific diploma or certificate program. The admission process encourages students to enter programs in which they have a reasonable expectation of success. Applicants must be at least 16 year of age or older. Specific programs in health occupations and Commercial Truck Driving may have higher age requirements. A high school diploma or a GED is required as a prerequisite for entrance into the some of the degree, diploma, and certificate programs. Please check with the admissions office or the STC catalog and student handbook for program specific information.
A GED or high school diploma will not be required for admission to the college or to a program area unless specified by program standards or a Board approved program proposal. The president of Sandersville Technical College has the authority to grant a waiver to the admissions requirement as it relates only to possessing a GED or high school diploma for those secondary students who are otherwise eligible to enroll in a program of study that is agreed upon by the secondary school and the technical college. Prior to graduation from a technical college, however, students in diploma, degree, and specified programs must receive a GED or high school diploma. Students completing a secondary program of study that is not approved by the United States Department of Education nor accepted by the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education via a recognized accreditation agency may be admitted to a technical college by attaining a GED or through one of the following paths.
Applications are processed and the names of applicants are placed on a list of programs on a first-come, first-served priority except in competitive admission programs. Because of the increasing demand for technical training, the chances of being accepted in the desired program are better if a student applies early. Students are notified by mail of their acceptance into a program.
